Pedestrian killed near Cullen and Bellfort; driver arrested for DWI

A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night near Cullen Boulevard and Bellfort Avenue on Houston’s south side, police say. Officers said the man entered an active traffic lane outside a marked crosswalk around 9:46 p.m. and was hit by a northbound vehicle. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died. The driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of DWI; police say the charge could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter as investigators review surveillance and other factors.
