Westbury High senior shot and killed near campus; school placed in secure mode

A 17-year-old Westbury High School senior was shot and killed Friday morning near campus in southwest Houston, Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz said (KPRC, FOX 26, ABC13, KHOU). HPD said the call came in around 8:21 a.m. CT; the shooting happened off campus on Dryad Drive near Chimney Rock Road / 11911 Chimney Rock Road after words were exchanged and someone produced a handgun, Diaz said. No arrest as of Friday midday; police are searching for the shooter with help from 25 state troopers, have recovered apartment-complex video, and are interviewing witnesses. Houston ISD placed Westbury High in secure mode; police said there was never an active threat inside the school and students and staff are safe. Developing; details may change.
